On August 8th, the 5th FIAP Photo Meeting opened in the 'City of Spring' Jinan. Approved by China's Ministry of Culture and People's Government of Shandong Province, the event is coorganized by International Federation of Photographic Art (FIAP) , Tourism Development Committee of Shandong, Shandong Provincial Department of Culture, and Shandong International Cultural Exchange Center. More than 320 representatives from 42 countries and regions attended the opening ceremony.

Riccardo Busi, president of FIAP, delivered a speech at the ceremony. He said "It is the 3rd time we organize our meetings in China. In 1997 in Shenzhen, in 2006 in Chengdu and Jiuzhaigou for two wonderful congresses. And now here in Jinan for our FIAP Photo Meeting. As an active photography organization, FIAP has seen an increasing number of member countries which now reaches 99, and more photographers getting involved. This time we've gathered over 500 photographers, making it an unprecedented event."

At the ceremony, the organizer also issued 2.85 million stamped postcards to commemorate the first FIAP Photo Meeting in China. Citizens could access to nearby postal offices for it. The photo on the postcard is a photography work titled 'The Earth is calling' by Liu Fusheng, president of Global Photography website.

The event continues through August 14th. All of the photographers and journalists will spend a whole week visiting 8 cities of Shandong Province, from the City of Spring, to Confucius' and Mo Zi's hometowns, as well as cultural relics where the ancient Silk Road lies, so as to explore the oriental wisdom and beauty of nature.

On August 9th, the 5th FIAP photo exhibition took place in Shandong Art Museum, with 5 different themed exhibitions showcasing landscape and portrait works.

The highlight was the 115 pieces original work of the famed photographer Yousuf Karsh. More than 300 photographers from 42 countries and regions attended the exhibition and were excited by the chance to appreciate such fine and vivid masterpieces face to face. The other four exhibitions are Image Art Exhibition of Silk Road Flavors and World Heritage, Image Art Exhibition of China's Intangible Cultural Heritage, Collective Exhibition of 10 Outstanding Photographers from MFIAP, Photography Art Exhibition of World Nature and Cultural Heritage.

Yousuf Karsh was an Armenian-Canadian photographer best known for his portraits of notable individuals. He was regarded as one of the greatest portrait photographers of the 20th century. His iconic 1941 photo of Winston Churchill brought him prominence. Churchill is particularly noted for his posture and facial expression that reflect persistence in the face of his enemy.

Mount Tai approved as World Photography Site

On August 10th, Mount Tai was approved as the first "World Photography Site" by FIAP. Witnessed by more than 300 photographers, the unveiling ceremony took place at the top of Mount Tai. This is a great highlight of the 5th FIAP Photo Meeting.

At the ceremony, Riccardo Busi, president of FIAP delivered the plaque to Cheng Li, vice mayor of Tai'an City, and then was granted a gift in return. Representatives from both parts also exchanged a strategic cooperation agreement to reach consensus on future collaboration .

As a cradle of Chinese civilization, Mount Tai was the first Chinese site to be listed as a World Natural and Cultural Heritage and is also a world geological park. Over there, the photographers conducted a series of photographic activities based on cultural experiences. The ceremony concluded in great success.

On August 14th, the 5th FIAP Photo Meeting Awarding Ceremony and closing dinner took place at Meridien Hotel in Qingdao West Coast New Area, where a total of over 400 photographers attended the ceremony.

Riccardo Busi, president of FIAP addressed that photographers coming from all over the world to gather in China, a traditional and beautiful country. It is a great honor for them to travel across Shandong Province, from cities to towns, from lofty Mount Tai in Tai’an to the vast ocean coast in Qingdao. Every one has been given the chance to capture fantastic landscapes, folk costumes and folklore activities. Besides, Mount Tai was approved as a world photography site by FIAP, with the aim to attract more photographers. The hospitality, passion and friendliness of Shandong people are indeed great treasures.

During the ceremony, a number of awards were presented to individuals and organizers who contribute greatly to the success of the 5th FIAP Photo Meeting. Riccardo Busi and Yang Yuanxing were granted the title of “Image Ambassador of Shandong Tourism Culture”. Busi also won the “Special Contribution Award”. Some other awards were also presented, including “Series Exhibition Award” “Outstanding Organization Award” and “Individual Contribution Award”.

After the awarding ceremony, all the guests enjoyed a feast of joy at the closing dinner. The 5th FIAP Photo meeting concluded in a great success.

On August 14th, photographers and photographic organizations from the Silk Road countries gathered together in Qingdao West Coast New District, China to witness the signing ceremony of the proposal for Silk Road Photographic Organization International Alliance (SRPOIA) and the establishment of the alliance.

The ceremony was chaired by Zeng Yi, president of Eastern International Photography Art Association. Riccardo Busi, president of FIAP, Joan Martisella and Freddy Van Gilbergen, vice presidents of FIAP, Ioannis Lykouris, secretary general of FIAP, Yang Yuanxing, president of China Artistic Photography Society, Liu Fusheng, president of Global Photography, together with over 200 FIAP representatives and photographers attended the ceremony.

During the ceremony, Yang Yuanxing, president of China Artistic Photography Society addressed that the Silk Road Photographic Organization International Alliance will serve as a platform to promote cultural exchanges, photographic art creation and international cooperation between the Silk Road countries and regions. He hoped that photographers from all over the world could work together with the alliance to advance development of photographic art.

In 2013, president Xi Jinping proposed Belt and Road initiative during his visit to Kazakhstan. The proposal is from China, but benefits the whole world, as the world is integral and interactive. Communication and mutual reference will give variety to civilizations. SRPOIA, a non-profit international alliance organization, will strive to promote Silk Road spirit to focus on Silk Road countries, to deepen innovative cooperation, and bring mutual benefits to all parties. SRPOIA also strives to respect, inherit and spread cultural heritage of member countries along the Silk Road. Through the cultural exchanges of photography field and use of internet and other advanced technology, SRPOIA will promote multicultural cross-border integration and innovative development, and strengthen mutural understandings and cultural exchanges between SRPOIA member countries and regions.

Yang Yuanxing was elected president of SRPOIA, and Riccardo Busi the honorary president of SRPOIA. Yang said the first board meeting will be held in China shortly.
In the end, all the representatives and photographers signed up, marking a successful conclusion of the ceremony.
The 5th FIAP Photo Meeting came to an end with the award ceremony and closing dinner at Meridien Hotel Hall.
